The Winter Concert on March 1 will include music from La tragédie de Carmen, the ever-popular opera by Bizet as adapted by Peter Brook (our 2008 opera), as well as music from the composer Anton Dvořák, and from the great American composer Richard Rodgers. A Richard Rodgers Revue will be a highlight of this summer's Festival. The Winter Concert artists will be familiar to PMMF audiences.
In 2005, Timothy Cheek and Kira Slovaček surprised and excited the audiences with performances of Czech and Slovak songs at the Winter Concert. Daniel Weeks and Timothy Cheek delighted PMMF's Winter Concert audiences during their 2006 visit to the Festival.
Pianist Timothy Cheek has performed recitals as a collaborative pianist in fourteen countries on three continents, and has been heard on various radio and television programs around the world. Cheek is Associate Professor of Performing Arts at the University of Michigan. There he teaches lyric diction classes, serves as music director of Opera Workshop, and coaches diction for opera productions.
A lyric tenor with a wide vocal range, Daniel Weeks has garnered praise from critics and audiences alike. His varied career encompasses the opera stage, oratorios with orchestras, recitals and a teaching position at the University of Louisville. Weeks has appeared with major symphonies across the United States, including the Houston Symphony, the Dallas Symphony, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s at Carnegie Hall, and the Cincinnati Symphony. On the operatic stage, Weeks has performed repeatedly with the Cincinnati Opera, Kentucky Opera, Florentine Opera of Milwaukee, Austin Lyric Opera, and Nevada Opera.
Soprano Kyra Slovaček began her vocal studies at the age of 16, winning a scholarship to the Juilliard School. Her performances include an appearance as Clorinda in Rossini’s La Cenerentola with PMMF in 2005. Ms. Slovaček is a great enthusiast of Czech music. She was recently named a winner in the International Czech and Slovak Competition in Montréal, and received a prize of Distinction from the International Dvořák Competition in the Czech Republic.
Come, share the romance, as the Pine Mountain Music Festival celebrates 18 Years in Love with Music. All proceeds benefit PMMF.
