This year we feature the return of a Festival favorite, Ralph Votapek, in a solo piano recital. This masterful pianist has played some of our most memorable concerts and it is a great honor to welcome him back. We last heard him in 2007 when he was joined by his wife, Albertine Votapek, in a beautiful concert for two pianos. It will be a great pleasure to welcome him back to the U.P.
Stas Venglevski will return to the U.P. after his successful concert last summer with mandolin player Misha Litvin. Stas will bring back his bayan, and will be joined by his wife, cellist Rosza Borisova, the violinist Frank Almond and pianist Nell Buckman to present an evening of Tango. The first half of the concert will feature the music of Piazzolla and the second half, Argentinian Tango. Artistic Director Joshua Major has long wanted to bring the music of Piazzolla to our stages and can think of no better group of musicians to do so. Stas's energy and humor will lead us through this exciting evening, not to be missed.
The Bergonzi Quartet will continue to offer free concerts for kids (parents are welcome too...) on the day of their performances. They continue to provide an up close and entertaining experience for children. It is a perfect opportunity to introduce kids to the joys of music making and string playing.
