The Bergonzi String Quartet returns to the Festival, continuing a relationship that has enriched us for more than 16 years. They will bring their virtuosic playing, humor, friendship and joy to the concert hall and the communities they visit. As a special treat this year, they will be playing Evan Premo's opera, The Diaries of Adam and Eve, scored for string quartet and two singers. They will also join Evan Premo to present the world premiere of his quintet for strings, based on the Anishinaabe creation story. This evening, titled "In the Beginning . . ." will feature music and musicians deeply connected to the PMMF.
We are pleased to continue to present some of the nation's finest young chamber musicians for the third season. Two ensembles will be in residence and will offer concerts throughout the Central and Western Upper Peninsula, including Houghton, Ontonagon, Iron Mountain, Ironwood, Escanaba, Munising and Marquette.
On Saturday July 3rd, the Bergonzi Quartet will present a master class with both ensembles. This is a great opportunity to get a glimpse of what happens before musicians get to the performance and how they prepare. The Bergonzi will share their insights into the mystery behind music making.
The Bergonzi Quartet will continue to offer free concerts for kids (parents are welcome too...) on the day of their performances. They continue to provide an up-close and entertaining experience for children. It is a perfect opportunity to introduce kids to the joys of music making and string playing.
