Resident Opera Artists

Pine Mountain Music Festival (PMMF) was founded in 1991 and produces a season of opera, symphony, and chamber music performances during June and July each summer. The Festival is located near Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, an area renowned for natural beauty and outdoor recreational activities. The PMMF has gained national attention in recent years and attracts top professional artists who are drawn to its beautiful venues and reputation for producing performances of high quality.

Established in 1998, the PMMF Resident Opera Artist Program is under the direction of Program Director Lucy Thrasher (Voice/Opera Faculty, Concordia College, MN) and Artistic Director Joshua Major (Opera Director, University of Michigan).

The 2011 PMMF Resident Opera Artists will tour Cosi Fan Tutte (sung in Italian) with chamber orchestra, fully staged and directed by Artistic Director Joshua Major. Under Jerry DePuit (University of Michigan), Resident Opera Artists will tour a musical revue (e.g. Cole Porter in 2009); they will perform concerts, and receive coaching with the Festival's musical and dramatic personnel. They will also perform in the North American premiere of the opera Rockland (sung in Finnish and English). This opera was especially commissioned for the Pine Mountain Music Festival.

Housing and a weekly stipend are provided. Six to eight singers will be chosen for the 2011 Season. Program dates are from May 31 through July 17, 2011.

To be considered for an audition, applicants must submit: a CD recording made within the last 6 months of two contrasting opera arias with accompaniment, completed application, detailed resumé, proof of age, a recent professional 8" x 10" photograph, color preferred (clearly marked with your name) and a non-refundable $30 application fee.
